Sana’a University has entered a new phase in the operation of its Central Laboratories Center for Scientific Research and Community Service (CLCSRCS) by launching a training program to qualify technical staff to operate its advanced equipment. The program brings together 21 trainees from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Agriculture and will run for 12 days.
During the launch of the program, Sana’a University Rector Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti said the University had succeeded in reactivating and equipping the Center through Yemeni expertise and efforts after its equipment had remained in storage for more than 12 years. He explained that a team of graduates from the Faculty of Engineering and other relevant faculties had managed to reassemble and operate eight specialized instruments without the need for foreign experts.
He noted that the team relied on studying equipment catalogs and technical schematics exceeding 18,000 pages to decipher the instruments, reassemble them, and gradually bring them into operation. He stressed that the equipment provides advanced capabilities for testing and analysis of water, food, pharmaceuticals, agricultural products, and other materials, compounds, and elements.
Prof. Al-Bukhaiti said the Center’s readiness opens opportunities for researchers and academics to benefit from its capabilities in applied research and master’s and doctoral theses. He added that the University had approved administrative and financial regulations to facilitate testing and analysis procedures and was committed to providing the necessary operational supplies to ensure the continued operation of the equipment in cooperation with government agencies and the private sector.
Then, Rector’s Assistant for Centers Affairs, Prof. Zaid Al-Warith, explained that the CLCRSCS will provide services to undergraduate and graduate students and researchers, as well as government agencies and the private sector. He noted that the program includes trainers from the General Organization for Standardization, the Supreme Board of Drugs, and the Ministry of Agriculture, in addition to professors from the faculties of Science, Pharmacy, Agriculture, and Petroleum and Natural Resources.
Dr. Taha Al-Weshali, Head of the Committee for Activating Workshops, Laboratories, and Research Facilities, said the Center’s operation represents the first phase of an integrated plan to develop the University’s scientific infrastructure. The plan will subsequently include equipping the Central Workshop, laboratories of the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology, and maintaining laboratories and equipment that are currently out of service across various faculties, particularly the Faculty of Medicine.
Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment Dr. Hisham Al-Jabali and Center Director Prof. Mansour Al-Dhubhani affirmed that the Center represents a significant addition to the University, providing accurate testing and analysis in chemistry, biological sciences, medical and pharmaceutical sciences, physics, and agricultural applications, while supporting the needs of both the public and private sectors.
The Rector urged the trainees and trainers to make the most of the program to ensure optimal use of the Center’s capabilities and strengthen its role in supporting scientific research and community service.
The launch was attended by the Center’s Deputy Director General, Dr. Fatima Morshid, as well as the Center’s technical and administrative staff.
