Acting Prime Minister Allama Mohammed Miftah emphasized the importance of directing universities and research centers to focus their scientific research on priority issues and the needs of society and the real world, contributing to scientific solutions that support development and national advancement.

He made the remarks during a ceremony held by Sana’a University today to honor 102 distinguished scholars and researchers in recognition of their scientific output and research achievements published during 2020–2025, as well as their contributions to advancing knowledge, serving society, and strengthening the presence of scientific research.

Allama Miftah noted that Sana’a University bears a leading responsibility for advancing science and knowledge in Yemen, in coordination with other universities, research centers, ministries, and relevant institutions. He stressed the importance of addressing societal issues and needs through research across various fields.

He commended the University’s initiative to honor male and female researchers, calling for its continuation and for greater attention to research with practical impact. He also praised the University’s weekly initiative in support of Gaza and solidarity with the Palestinian cause, describing it as an awareness-raising, solidarity-based, and ethical model, while affirming the government’s support for scientific and research efforts and initiatives related to the needs of society.

Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hasan Al-Saadi called on Sana’a University academics and researchers to direct their research plans and scholarly theses toward pressing development issues and work on innovative practical solutions to economic and service-related challenges. He stressed that the most important value of scientific research lies in translating its outputs into programs and solutions that benefit citizens and society.

Sana’a University Rector Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti stated that the honoring ceremony forms part of the University’s efforts to establish academic traditions that celebrate knowledge and scholars, encourage outstanding research output, and link scientific research with development and the labor market, while also strengthening the University’s presence in international rankings.

He explained that the University has continued this tradition for the sixth consecutive year, honoring its scholars and researchers who have published their work in reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals at the national, regional, and international levels.

Prof. Al-Bukhaiti noted that Sana’a University academics published approximately 541 scientific papers internationally in 2025, led by the Faculty of Medicine with 200 papers, followed by the Center for Business Administration with 90 papers, in addition to the research output of the University’s other faculties.

He added that scientific output during the first nine months of the year reached 430 papers, with the figure expected to rise to 600 scientific papers by the third quarter of the current year. He also highlighted the continued development of three specialized scientific journals covering medical, applied, engineering, humanities, and legal fields, which have met 90 percent of international standards, in preparation for their official inclusion in global indexes and databases.

The Rector affirmed that Sana’a University, with a 56-year history, has strengthened its presence on international ranking platforms, including QS, Times, and Webometrics. He also noted the continuation of direct financial incentives and rewards for researchers who publish in journals classified globally within Q1–Q4, a mechanism that has been in place since 2020.

In turn, Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Dr. Hamoud Al-Ahnoumi affirmed that scientific research represents the core of the University’s mission and the bridge connecting knowledge with the future. He noted the continued presence of University researchers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals indexed in global databases during 2020–2025.

He explained that the honoring is not limited to published research, but also celebrates the ideas, efforts, creativity, and scholarly mission that carry the name of Sana’a University to the world. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to supporting researchers, encouraging scientific publication, strengthening research partnerships, and building an academic environment that enables Yemeni researchers to establish a presence and make an impact in the international scientific community.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the honorees, Dr. Amer Mahdi, who ranked second among researchers at Sana’a University, expressed their pride in receiving the honor, emphasizing that the occasion represents an incentive to continue research and innovation, serve development and economic and humanitarian needs, and enhance the University’s standing nationally and internationally.

The ceremony also featured a presentation on the trajectory of scientific research at Sana’a University during 2020–2025, delivered by Dr. Hisham Al-Jabali, Director General of the University Scientific Research.

At the conclusion of the event, Minister of Education and Scientific Research Mr. Hasan Al-Saadi; Sana’a University Rector Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti; Vice-Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Prof. Hamoud Al-Ahnoumi; Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Mohammed Shukri; Acting Minister of Information Prof. Omar Da’ar Al-Bukhaiti; and Chairman of the Academic Accreditation Council Prof. Adel Al-Mattari honored the research scholars from Sana’a University and took a commemorative group photo with them.

The ceremony was attended by Rector’s Assistant for Medical Faculties and Hospitals Dr. Abdulhafidh Thawaba, Rector’s Assistant for Centers Prof. Zaid Al-Warith, and Rector’s Assistant for Media Affairs Adel Al-Hababi; Chairman of the National Innovation Authority Dr. Muneer Al-Qadhi; Chairman of the Federation of Persons with Disabilities Abdullah Bunyan; deans of the faculties; directors of scientific and research centers; and a large number of researchers, faculty members, and University administrative staff.
