The 38th Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana’a University concluded today after three days of academic and research activities featuring the presentation and discussion of graduation research by physicians of the Faculty’s 38th graduating batch. The conference brought together faculty members, medical consultants, and researchers, with the participation of the University and Faculty leadership.

The closing session and honoring ceremony were held under the patronage of Sana’a University Rector Prof. Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bukhaiti, in the presence of the Rector's Assistant for Medical Faculties and Hospitals Dr. Abdulhafiz Thawabah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Prof. Mohammed Mohammed Al-Shahari, Director of the Police Hospital Dr. Fahd Al-Madoumi, Head of the Department of Community Medicine Prof. Adel Ahmed Al-Emad, and a number of department heads and faculty members.

Prof. Al-Bukhaiti affirmed that the conference reflects Sana’a University’s commitment to scientific research as a key pillar for advancing university education and improving its outcomes. He commended the academic quality of the research presented and its focus on health issues relevant to community needs while encouraging the graduates to continue their academic careers and pursue graduate studies and medical specialization programs.

He also highlighted the importance of applying the findings of medical and field research to better understand health challenges and support the development of preventive and therapeutic services, thereby strengthening the connection between medical education, scientific research, and community service.

In turn, Prof. Al-Shahari commended the efforts of the 38th cohort’s students, faculty members, academic supervisors, and preparatory and organizing committees. He explained that the conference represents the culmination of a seven-year academic and research journey that equipped students with skills in research design, data analysis, and the presentation of findings in accordance with scientific principles.

The fifth and final scientific session, chaired by Prof. Adel Al-Emad, featured discussions of four research studies addressing a range of health and community-related topics. These included telephone health consultations among physicians in public hospitals; symptoms of anxiety and depression among adults with migraine; medical students’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs); and the level of knowledge and practices related to first aid among non-medical students at Sana’a University.

The research topics demonstrated the broadening scope of students’ research interests in health issues related to medical practice and the community, with particular emphasis on preventive and awareness-oriented aspects and on applying research findings to improve health practices.

At the conclusion of the conference, faculty members, department heads, academic supervisors, and members of the preparatory and organizing committees from among physicians and students were honored in recognition of their efforts in supervising the research projects, organizing the conference sessions, and ensuring its successful academic delivery.

The 38th Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences forms part of Sana’a University’s efforts to strengthen a culture of scientific research, develop research skills among medical students, and link the outcomes of medical education with health issues and community needs, thereby reinforcing the University’s role in knowledge production and advancing healthcare development..
