Sana’a University today organized a protest rally in the courtyard of its Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to condemn the Saudi-led coalition’s bombing of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Hodeidah University. The rally also expressed solidarity with Hodeidah University’s academic leadership, faculty members, and students, and rejected attacks on educational institutions and civilian facilities.

The vigil was attended by Prof. Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti, Rector of Sana’a University; faculty deans; faculty members; staff of the medical faculties; and a large number of students. Participants voiced their condemnation of the attack and stressed the importance of protecting educational and medical institutions and safeguarding students’ right to continue their education in a safe environment.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Al-Bukhaiti, speaking on behalf of Sana’a University, its academic and administrative leadership, staff, and students, condemned the targeting of the Faculty of Medicine at Hodeidah University. He described the attack as a serious violation of the sanctity of educational institutions and an assault on their scientific and humanitarian mission, which is to educate and train medical professionals to serve society and protect human life.

He affirmed that attacks on educational and medical institutions pose a direct threat to the educational process and the future of coming generations, and violate international principles and rules that guarantee the protection of educational institutions and civilian facilities. He stressed that universities must remain safe spaces for learning, research, and knowledge, free from conflict and attacks.

Prof. Al-Bukhaiti called on Arab, Islamic, and international universities and academic institutions, as well as organizations concerned with education and human rights, to adopt clear positions on attacks against educational institutions in Yemen. He also urged them to work toward protecting academic and medical facilities and ensuring that those responsible for violations are held accountable in accordance with international laws and conventions.

He further stressed that universities must continue fulfilling their mission in education, scientific research, and community service despite the challenges they face, and that attacks on academic facilities will not weaken Yemeni educational institutions’ determination to carry out their scientific, national, and humanitarian responsibilities.

For their part, participants emphasized that attacks on medical faculties affect far more than buildings and facilities; they also undermine the educational and research processes and threaten the training of the medical professionals’ society needs. They reaffirmed their full solidarity with Hodeidah University and its community, and their commitment to ensuring that Yemeni universities continue fulfilling their educational and humanitarian missions.

At the conclusion of the rally, Sana’a University issued a statement strongly condemning the targeting of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Hodeidah University, describing it as a violation of international laws and conventions and an assault on the sanctity and humanitarian mission of educational institutions.

The statement declared the University’s full solidarity with Hodeidah University, its leadership, faculty members, and students. It called on international organizations and bodies concerned with the protection of education to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities. It also urged Arab, Islamic, and international universities and academic federations to adopt a clear position on attacks against educational institutions, work to prevent the recurrence of such violations, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable under international law.
