Proceeding from its historic academic, national, and humanitarian responsibilities, and its unwavering vigilance against the atrocities of the aggression targeting educational and healthcare institutions in our country through systematic and flagrant attacks, Sana’a University has followed with profound concern and mounting outrage the systematic aerial attack on the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Hodeidah University, carried out as part of the Saudi-led brutal aggression against our country. This heinous act constitutes a flagrant violation of the sanctity of academic and healthcare institutions and a malicious assault on the mission of knowledge and on one of humanity’s most fundamental rights: the right to education and healthcare.
In the strongest possible terms, Sana’a University unequivocally condemns and denounces this criminal attack. It declares its full solidarity with Hodeidah University, its academic leadership, faculty members, students, and all its affiliates, and affirms its steadfast support for them in confronting the consequences and repercussions of this aggression. Sana’a University further affirms that it is closely following, with profound indignation and concern, the damage inflicted upon this distinguished academic institution—an institution entrusted with a noble scientific and humanitarian mission whose impact extends beyond the present needs of society to help shape the capabilities and future of generations to come.
Targeting a university faculty or a healthcare institution is not merely a wanton act of destruction against facilities and buildings; it is a direct and malicious assault on humanity, knowledge, and life itself. It constitutes a blatant violation of the generations’ right to education and a desperate attempt to undermine national efforts to prepare the scientific and medical professionals our people so urgently need. Universities are not merely walls and buildings; they are powerful centers of intellect that shape the future, repositories of an enduring legacy of knowledge, and bearers of a timeless civilizational mission that must never become a target of aggressors’ weapons!
Sana’a University stresses that the inviolability of educational and healthcare institutions is neither negotiable nor subject to selective application. Rather, it is a fundamental humanitarian, legal, and moral obligation enshrined in international laws, conventions, and instruments. Any violation of this inviolability represents a grave crossing of red lines and demands a clear and decisive international response—not fleeting expressions of concern or weak, merely symbolic positions that do nothing to bring these continuing criminal violations to an end.
Guided by its principled commitment to defending national sovereignty and its sense of responsibility, Sana’a University calls upon the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, all international organizations, human rights bodies, and academic institutions worldwide to fully discharge their legal and humanitarian responsibilities. It urges them to take immediate and effective action to halt the grave attacks targeting universities, schools, hospitals, and healthcare facilities throughout Yemen; to ensure the necessary protection of these institutions, their staff, students, patients, and beneficiaries of their services; and to guarantee that such institutions are never again targeted under any circumstances.
While affirming that solidarity among scientific and academic institutions is not an empty diplomatic or protocol-driven gesture, but rather a principled duty arising from the unity of their scientific mission and their shared national and humanitarian responsibilities, Sana’a University renews its unwavering and principled support for Hodeidah University. It emphasizes that any attack on a Yemeni university is an attack on the entire national higher education system. The unity and solidarity of university institutions constitute an impregnable bulwark and a fundamental pillar in safeguarding the mission of knowledge and ensuring the continuation of its enlightening journey.
Sana’a University, as Yemen’s foremost university and one of the country's most venerable centers of learning and knowledge, reaffirms its unwavering commitment to its national and academic responsibility to build human capacities, develop qualified professionals, promote awareness and enlightenment, and resolutely defend every generation’s right to education and a dignified life. The University shall remain a towering beacon of knowledge, thought, and creativity; a steadfast incubator of national intellect and talent; and a firmly established institution that believes knowledge is the true strength of nations and that countries steadfastly committed to learning cannot be defeated by challenges or broken by conspiracies.
Long live Yemen—free, dignified, proud, and steadfast, its head held high through the unyielding will of its people, their legendary steadfastness, and the wisdom of their leadership. The banner of science and knowledge shall continue to fly high in its skies, and its universities shall remain impregnable fortresses of thought and beacons of civilization. Neither the cowardly missiles of aggression shall undermine their noble mission, nor shall storms of tyranny extinguish their everlasting light.
