The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana'a University concluded the final practical and oral exams for the "Hematopoietic & Lymphatic System Block" course for second-year students in the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) program. This comes as part of implementing the assessment plan for the first semester and aligns with the faculty's drive to develop academic evaluation methods and enhance students' scientific and practical skills.
The exams included evaluating practical knowledge and skills related to the hematopoietic and lymphatic systems. This encompassed the microscopic identification of normal and pathological blood smears, examination of histological preparations of lymphoid organs, interpretation of essential laboratory tests and indicators, and assessing students' comprehension of scientific concepts concerning blood functions, blood cell formation, and coagulation and immunity mechanisms.
Furthermore, the oral exams involved discussing course topics with students, measuring their comprehension of scientific information, and evaluating their ability to analyze, deduce, and bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Academic committees comprising faculty members from relevant departments participated to assess students' academic achievement and cognitive skills.
The exams were conducted in the faculty's laboratories and halls under structured academic organization and specific evaluation procedures. They were supervised by the faculty dean's office, monitored by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Prof. Arwa Othman, and coordinated with course coordinators, providing students with a suitable environment and reinforcing adherence to standards of organization, objectivity, and fairness in the assessment process.
The "Hematopoietic & Lymphatic System Block" course is considered one of the core subjects in the integrated medical curriculum due to the essential scientific knowledge it provides regarding blood formation and functions, lymphoid organs, immunity and coagulation mechanisms, and their correlation with various pathological conditions—such as anemia, coagulation disorders, and lymphatic system diseases—thereby laying a vital foundational knowledge base for students in their subsequent medical studies.
The completion of these exams reflects the keenness of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sana'a University to develop the educational and evaluative process, enhance integration between theoretical and practical aspects in teaching medical sciences, and prepare students equipped with the scientific knowledge and practical skills required to pursue their medical studies and progress toward clinical practice with efficiency and responsibility.
