As part of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment at Sana’a University’s commitment to strengthening practical learning and bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and field-based applications, horticulture students conducted a hands-on training session as part of the requirements of the Nurseries and Horticultural Farms course. The training was supervised by Eng. Amani Jawlah and Dr. Mansoor Al-Thobhani.
The training included a field visit to a greenhouse to assess its components and evaluate its operational efficiency. Students examined its key strengths and weaknesses, identified issues related to the internal growing environment and greenhouse organization, and discussed appropriate solutions and corrective measures to address shortcomings, improve operating conditions, and make more effective use of its available resources.
The practical session also involved organizing and arranging ornamental trees and plants and classifying them according to their respective botanical families. Plants belonging to the same family were grouped together, enabling students to gain practical knowledge of plant taxonomic characteristics, distinguish between different botanical families, and strengthen their ability to apply scientific classification and organization principles in nurseries and horticultural farms.
The training aimed to develop students’ practical competencies and equip them with field experience in greenhouse assessment, identifying operational requirements, and evaluating strengths and weaknesses. It also sought to enhance their skills in classifying and organizing ornamental plants and managing nurseries and horticultural farms in accordance with sound scientific and technical principles.
This activity is part of a series of practical training initiatives organized by the Faculty to enhance the quality and effectiveness of its academic programs, equip students with the professional knowledge and skills they need, and strengthen the integration of academic learning and field training in horticulture and its technologies.
