Third-year students in the Department of Horticulture and Its Techniques at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment - Sana'a University conducted a practical field session as part of the "Warm-Season Vegetable Production" course. The session involved preparing agricultural raised beds and completing the requirements for seedling planting, as part of efforts to reinforce applied skills and bridge theoretical knowledge with field practice.
The field activities included cleaning planting beds, removing weed growth underneath previous plastic mulch covers, preparing the raised beds, installing new plastic mulch sheeting, laying out and setting up drip irrigation networks (GR drip lines), and punching holes into the mulch cover at specified locations designated for seedling planting in accordance with the technical requirements of agricultural practice.
The practical session aimed to provide students with essential hands-on experience in agricultural land preparation and familiarize them with the steps involved in configuring raised beds, laying mulch films, and installing irrigation systems. It also highlighted the importance of these procedures in creating optimal growing conditions for seedlings and improving crop management efficiency.
This activity aligns with the strategic direction of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment at Sana'a University to advance practical agricultural education and build students' proficiency in conducting field operations, thereby contributing to the training of qualified agricultural professionals equipped with the expertise necessary to implement modern farming practices and support agricultural production in Yemen.
