The Center for Inclusive Development Research Center (IDRC) at Sana’a University organized a scientific seminar entitled “The Role of Business Incubators and Accelerators in Promoting the Growth of Small and Micro Enterprises.” The event was attended by a number of University faculty members, graduate students at the Center, students from various disciplines, and others interested in the field.

At the outset, Dr. Halima Jahhaf, Director of the Center, welcomed the attendees and emphasized the Center’s pivotal developmental role as a key partner in supporting the national economy. She also highlighted the role of business incubators and accelerators in transforming ideas and innovations into sustainable economic assets.

Then, Dr. Sami Maqbuli, Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade, discussed the government’s role in supporting business incubators through the new Investment Law, which grants them full exemptions from taxes and customs duties on production inputs, provided that their capital does not exceed USD 100,000.

Ahmed Shammakh, a member of the Shura Council and Deputy Chair of its Economic Committee, highlighted the importance of business incubators in improving the quality of manufacturing industries. He stressed the need to localize industries and called on businesspeople and banks to support business incubators given their role in increasing domestic production and creating employment opportunities.

Dr. Abdulwahab Abdulqader presented a paper examining the role of business incubators in achieving development and creating jobs. He noted that the unemployment rate had reached 36%, one of the highest rates in the world.

Researcher Amal Al-Suraihi also presented a paper on the role of business incubators in promoting the growth of small and micro enterprises.

The seminar featured several inspiring success stories from entrepreneurs, followed by the opening of a mini-exhibition showcasing their experiences and projects.

The event concluded with a presentation of the seminar’s recommendations and a ceremony honoring the entrepreneurs whose success stories had been featured.
